Enhancing Dental Restoration Techniques
with Dr. Michael Dieter
Ivoclar hosted a highly anticipated dental workshop for the launch
of their new composite, the tetric N-ceram 2. The workshop,
conducted by Dr. Michael Dieter (Head of Direct Restorative
and Prevention Global Education), was held at Le Meridien,
New Delhi. The event, attracted a total of 52 participants for the
lecture and 32 participants for the hands-on workshop.
Dr. Dieter’s lectures focused on modern techniques for direct
posterior and anterior composite restorations. Emphasizing
efficiency and aesthetic outcomes, he introduced methods
to streamline the restoration process, crucial for handling
challenging cases which require high aesthetic outcomes, patient
satisfaction and durability.
The morning session covered the technique for aesthetic
restorations, highlighting fast and effective isolation methods,
predictable bonding procedures, and the debate between
layering and bulk filling techniques. Participants learned how to
minimize post-operative sensitivity while ensuring high-quality
results.
In the afternoon, Dr. Dieter shifted focus to the hands-on
workshop, discussing and demonstrating the intricate aspects
of aesthetic tooth preparation, color matching, and translucency
control. This allowed participants to apply these techniques,
using multi-layered and multi-colored approaches to achieve
near-invisible restorations. This interactive session provided
valuable practical experience, enhancing participants’ confidence
in performing complex restorative procedures.
According to Dr. Pearl Bhardwaj, a periodontist practicing in
Delhi for 11 years, “the workshop was invaluable for clarifying
concepts and emphasized the importance of proper finishing
and polishing of restorations.” She noted that Tetric N-Ceram 2
is less sticky with excellent optical properties and appreciated the
Vivapen product as well.
Dental Practice also had an opportunity to interview
Dr. Michael Dieter, which will be featured in the next issue.
