The world’s first tooth-regrowing drug has

           been approved for human trials

If things go as planned, the medicine could be available to consumers by 2030

Although the normal adult mouth has 32 teeth, about 1%
of the population has more or fewer due to congenital
conditions. Scientists have explored the genetic causes for
cases having too many teeth as clues for regenerating teeth
           in adults.
A new study by scientists at Kyoto University and
the University of Fukui, reports that the fundamental
molecules responsible for tooth development have already
           been identified.
The new medicine quite literally regrows teeth. The
research has been led by Katsu Takahashi, head of dentistry
and oral surgery at Kitano Hospital. The intravenous drug
           deactivates the uterine sensitization-associated gene-1
(USAG-1) protein that suppresses tooth growth. Blocking
USAG-1 from interacting with other proteins triggers bone
           growth.
