NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
RAHUL KAKODKAR
The digital revolution has radically
changed our profession
Off late, we have witnessed a huge transition in Dental industry with the rise
of dedicated Digital Conferences. Digital Dentistry is being incorporated across
various specialities which includes restorative, rehabilitation, aesthetics etc. We
are also witnessing a rise in Artificial Intelligence based screening of periodon-
tal health in various geographies.
My personal take on this is as follows: Digital Dentistry from a clinical perspec-
tive is merely limited to buying a scanner and sharing data with the laboratory,
aligner manufacturers, surgical guides, smile designers etc. But for a laborato-
ry, it is a comprehensive and elaborate workflow which includes education,
analysis, planning and execution.
Digital Dentistry has opened up many avenues and unlike a few years ago,
India is at par with what is trending on global standards, be it technology or
material science. The way technology is progressing at such a fast pace,
Laboratories these days have to keep themselves updated and constantly re-
invent to stay on top of their game.
Because of digital dentistry, it has become a tight ropewalk for the laboratory
as it involves continuous training and upgrades. This has forced them to start
their in-house training facilities.
Smaller laboratories have also now started investing in digital technology but
they do find it difficult due to the lack of technical know-how and inadequate
training. It is imperative that they invest time, effort and money so that they
remain competitive. As technicians we need to constantly uplift ourselves
adopting newer technologies while not letting go of basic fundamentals.
WE ARE PLEASED to consider unpublished articles
and features on topics of interest to practicing
dental technicians and dentists interested in dental
laboratory technology.
These may include lab procedures and techniques, topics relat-
ing to management of the clinical aspects of dental technology
and non-clinical issues impacting dental laboratories.
Manuscripts must not be under consideration elsewhere.
We also welcome pre and post event reports, news items and
new product information from institutions, organisations and laboratories as well as feedback and com-
ments from readers.
