CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE IN INDIA - A CONVERSATION WITH DENTSPLY SIRONA

As Dentsply Sirona marks three decades of their presence in India, MediMedia India had the privilege of sitting down with two key individuals shaping the company’s vision in the region — Mr. Jeffrey Wang, Vice President and General Manager of Emerging Asia, and Mr. Rajinder Arora, General Manager of India. In this exclusive conversation, they reflect on the company’s journey, strategic direction, and groundbreaking innovations, including the recent launch of the VDW.ROTATE™ system.

MediMedia: Congratulations on 30 years of Dentsply Sirona India! What does this milestone mean to the organization?

Jeffrey Wang: Thank you. Reaching our 30th anniversary in India is a significant milestone — not just in terms of years, but in the legacy we’ve built. It reflects our long-standing commitment to this market and our investment in supporting the local dental ecosystem. Over the years, we've gone beyond delivering high-quality dental products. We
have contributed to raising the standard of care through innovation, education, and clinical excellence. It’s an honour to be a part of this journey. We don’t just see ourselves as a business operating in India — we’re proud to be partners in the growth of healthcare and dental wellness in the country.

Rajinder Arora: I absolutely agree. Completing 30 years in a market as dynamic as India speaks volumes about our consistency, customer trust, and the value we deliver. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see our technologies being used across the country, not just in metros, but in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities as well. Our goal has always been to empower dentists with world-class solutions, and this reinforces our commitment to continue supporting Indian practitioners with even greater energy and purpose in the years ahead.

MediMedia: Dentsply Sirona recently launched the VDW.ROTATE™ file system in India. What inspired this launch, and how does it align with the company's long-term vision for the Indian market?

Rajinder Arora: The launch of VDW.ROTATE™ was a strategic decision rooted in a very real need we observed in the endodontic space. We realized there was a specific segment of the market we hadn’t yet addressed effectively — a space where affordability and performance were equally critical. After extensive evaluation, we found VDW.ROTATE™ to be the ideal solution. It fills that gap by offering a high-performing, reliable, and economically viable file system. With
strong backing from our global and regional teams, we were able to bring this innovation to India with a pricing strategy that makes it accessible to a broader base of practitioners.

Jeffrey Wang: From a broader emerging markets perspective, India is a key focus area for us. Our strategies are always patient- and doctor-centric. With VDW.ROTATE™, we aimed to reduce access barriers while still maintaining our high standards of quality. It fits perfectly into our long-term vision of expanding access to advanced dental care tools in emerging markets through tailored innovation and thoughtful pricing.

MediMedia: What are the key attributes of the VDW.ROTATE™ system and how does it differ from your previous products in the endodontic space?

Rajinder Arora: The VDW.ROTATE™ system brings together several critical advantages. It offers superior cutting efficiency and flexibility, both of which are essential for successful endodontic outcomes. But perhaps what truly sets it apart is its affordability — a factor we were very conscious of when preparing for the Indian launch. With this system, dentists no longer have to compromise between cost and performance. It’s a product that ticks all the boxes: clinically effective, easy to adopt, and priced in a way that aligns with the realities of an Indian practice.

MediMedia: Could you tell us how Dentsply Sirona balances innovation with affordability, especially in a relatively price-sensitive market like India?

Rajinder Arora: That balance is possible only when you have a strong support from your global and regional stakeholders — which we’re fortunate to have. Our corporate teams understood the importance of offering key products at a competitive price point in India. We received special approvals and strategic flexibility to make that happen. It shows that Dentsply Sirona is not just focused on innovation, but also on ensuring that innovation reaches those who need it the most, in a manner that’s practical and sustainable.

Jeffrey Wang: It’s always a delicate balance — innovation, quality, and affordability. But it’s a challenge we take seriously. For us, quality is non-negotiable. It’s what our 140-year legacy is built on. However, we are continuously working to improve our manufacturing processes and supply chains so we can deliver that quality more cost-effectively, especially in value-sensitive markets like India. Our approach is not to dilute innovation, but to make it more efficient and accessible.

MediMedia: Do you plan on opening a manufacturing base in India anytime soon?

Rajinder Arora: We already have a manufacturing presence in Manesar where we produce Gutta Percha points and kit Spectrum products specifically designed for Indian customers. That said, our immediate priority with VDW.ROTATE™ was to bring the product to market and make it available across India with speed and consistency. We’re always evaluating future opportunities based on demand and strategic need. But even without local manufacturing for this specific product, we’ve ensured that access and affordability are not compromised.

Jeffrey Wang: Our first step is always ensuring that our customers — the doctors — can get the products they need, when and where they need them. Once that infrastructure is solid and we see sustained demand, we look at localization strategies.

MediMedia: How do you see the global dental landscape evolving, and what role will Dentsply Sirona play in shaping that future?

Jeffrey Wang: The dental industry is on the cusp of a major transformation. AI, digital workflows, and smarter, more connected systems are becoming the norm. As a company, we see ourselves not just keeping pace with this change, but driving it. Our mission is to ensure that cutting-edge solutions are not confined to developed markets. Regions like South and Southeast Asia are key to our strategy. That’s why we’re investing heavily in clinician education and digital tools — so dentists everywhere, including India, can access and benefit from the best in dental innovation.

Rajinder Arora: One of the most exciting aspects of this evolution is connectivity. Through platforms like DS Core, we’re aiming to bring diagnostics, planning, treatment data, and patient communication all into one integrated ecosystem. It’s about empowering practitioners with realtime, accessible tools that improve clinical outcomes and workflow efficiency. That’s the kind of future we’re building.

MediMedia: Please tell us about the key strategies the company is focusing on to drive growth and innovation in the Indian market?

Jeffrey Wang: India is central to our growth strategy. Our approach includes building strong, capable local teams who understand the market nuances deeply. We’re also committed to ensuring resource allocation — not just in terms of people, but also in terms of technology and product access. For us, India is not just a customer base; it’s a growth engine. We want to make sure India is seen, heard, and supported at the global level, because its potential is immense.

Rajinder Arora: Absolutely. We believe that everything starts with the right people. When we invest in our teams, it leads to better customer experiences, more efficient operations, and ultimately, better patient outcomes. Education is another pillar of our strategy — we’re constantly bringing in global speakers, conducting hands-on training, and creating platforms that allow Indian clinicians to upgrade their skills and stay ahead of the curve.

MediMedia: What can you tell us about implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in your innovations and Dentsply Sirona’s position on AI technology?

Jeffrey Wang: AI is no longer a future concept — it’s here, and it’s shaping every aspect of dentistry, from diagnostics and treatment planning to patient engagement. At Dentsply Sirona, we’re embracing this shift by integrating AI into our solutions in meaningful ways. It’s about helping dentists make faster, more accurate decisions and simplifying complex procedures. At Dentsply Sirona, we’re not only looking at AI — we’re focused on staying ahead with all kinds of innovations. This includes technologies like 3D printing, with solutions such as Primeprint. We also have platforms like DS Core, which are designed to bring future technologies into our systems smoothly.

In the APAC region, especially, we see AI becoming a powerful tool to improve diagnosis and help doctors work more efficiently. It’s not just about keeping up with trends, but about making real improvements in how dental care is delivered. We’re definitely planning to invest more in this area, and AI will continue to be a big part of our innovation efforts at the corporate level.

Rajinder Arora: Along with AI, technologies like 3D printing and cloud-based platforms are rapidly transforming the landscape. DS Core is a great example — it’s a centralized digital hub that supports the full clinical journey. Our vision is to make such innovations universally accessible. AI in particular holds massive promise, especially in diagnostics and treatment planning — and we’re excited to lead that charge.
